John Sloan

Wrestling Coach

John Sloan grew up in Cherry Hill New Jersey and began competing in wrestling in 6th grade. His high school career was highlighted by multiple trips to the NJ state tournament and surpassing the all-time career win mark at Cherry Hill East High School.  John went on to compete collegiately at George Mason University in Fairfax VA.  In 1993 Sloan graduated from GMU with a bachelors degree in history.  In the fall of 1993 John began his career in education as a teacher and assistant wrestling coach at Annandale High School.  The following year he was named the head coach at Centreville High School (VA) where he taught and coached for nearly ten years. His teams at Centreville were perennial contenders for regional and state team titles and produced numerous all-state wrestlers. In 1999 Sloan completed his masters degree in education from George Mason University. ​During this time John married his wife Gia and they were blessed with three sons, Sean, Luke and Scott. In 2004 the Sloan family relocated to the Austin area where John served as the head wrestling coach at Leander High School for one year before moving into educational administration.  John is currently the Principal of Cedar Park High School.
